This is a 5x and 10x zoom test of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra camera.
A significant improvement over the 10X zoom camera with a lower 10MP resolution from last year is the new 5X optical zoom lens with a 50MP high-resolution sensor found on the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. Although having a 5X zoom camera is great, many were concerned that it would not function as well at greater zoom levels.
Samsung claims that the new zoom lens can produce an optical-quality zoom of up to 10X when combined with the 50MP Adaptive Pixel sensor. So, are our worries about the quality of images captured at 5X and 10X zoom justified?
AI-enhanced zoom
We tested the Galaxy S24 Ultra camera in public settings, paying particular attention to its zoom capabilities, and were pleasantly surprised by the outcome.
With its higher-resolution sensor, Samsung’s new ProVisual engineβa fancy term for their suite of AI-powered camera toolsβclaims to significantly improve image quality at any distance. As can be seen in the sample gallery below, we took on the challenge and shot the same scene in 1X, 5X, and 10X.
Testing revealed that the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s camera produces incredibly impressive images, especially when using its 5X zoom focal length.
Unfortunately, after image compression, the sharpness and clarity of the images may not be fully apparent.
But it’s evident how Samsung’s latest color correction technology contributes to exhibiting superb color reproduction and capturing even the smallest details. The camera takes excellent low-light pictures with little noise, demonstrating its remarkable performance.
Although there were a few sporadic problems, they weren’t the majority.
There were some rare mishaps at longer zooms.
For instance, the 10X zoom picture in the image above shows some rather strange processing and extreme oversharpening.
Advances in lithography
Samsung boasted about “Nightography,” a feature that promised improved image clarity in any lighting situation, even at 5X magnification, in addition to the new zoom lens.
